Title: Behind the Scenes: the Role of Science Management in Research and Innovation

Speaker:  Dr Juliana Valle from the Technical University of Munich

Abstract: In this talk, I will share an overview of the research environment at the Chair of Biological Imaging (TUM), where we develop novel optoacoustic imaging technologies for the life sciences and medicine. From my perspective as a science manager working closely with researchers, I will reflect on how complex projects evolve, not only through scientific ideas, but also with the coordination, collaboration, and strategic support that take place away from the spotlight. By sharing my experience, I aim to illustrate how science management actively enables the translation of technology into meaningful results and innovation, while also opening pathways for future collaboration.

Bio: Since 2022, I am a Science Manager at the Technical University of Munich. With over ten years of experience in scientific project management, I have coordinated complex initiatives ranging from large-scale research expeditions and environmental monitoring to third party funded projects – both in Brazil and in Germany. Holding a PhD in natural sciences, I work in multidisciplinary and international environments at the interface of academia and industry. Currently, I support the translation of innovative imaging technologies into applications in the life sciences and medicine. On my free time, I organize the Pint of Science Festival in Munich.

About School research seminars

Seminars cover all aspects of chemistry and molecular biosciences and are delivered by visiting national and international academics. PhD completion seminars are also incorporated into the program.

Seminars are usually held in person and occasionally via zoom. All are welcome to attend.
