Equity, diversity and inclusion
The School of Chemistry and Molecular Biosciences is committed to promoting equity and fostering a culture of inclusiveness for students and staff.
The School’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee meets regularly to advance initiatives in this area. Current areas of focus include gender equity, Indigenous reconciliation, disability inclusion, LGBTQIA+ inclusion, and cultural and linguistic diversity.

Disability support initiatives
SCMB has been developing a variety of support measures to make its teaching laboratories more welcoming for students with disabilities. A recent highlight includes a virtual tour of our teaching laboratories, produced through a Student–Staff Partnership project. This can be found on the SCMB Blackboard site.
Diversity Action Group
The School’s Diversity Action Group has given the School’s early-career researchers and HDR students the opportunity to help promote a sense of community in the School. They ran a successful series of lunchtime discussion groups exploring diversity-related topics.
HDR Peer Network Mentor Scheme
New HDR students have been welcomed to the School through this peer mentoring scheme which enables new students to discuss their activities with experienced students over informal coffee catchups.
Female representation
In addition to the Women in Science podcast series above, the School marks the International Day of Women with social media profiles of female staff and seeks gender balance in its seminar programs by monitoring statistics.
UQ Training
The School encourages staff and students to complete training modules for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Core Cultural Learning in Workday, where UQ Ally training can also be found.
UQ Reconciliation Action Plan
The School is implementing the UQ Reconciliation Action Plan and amongst other activities, including the training referred to above, staff are encouraged to support indigenous businesses where possible, with Supply Nation having been identified as a potential source of hospitality catering providers.
