Structural differences between multiple strains of yellow fever viruses may inform vaccine development

PhD student, Summa Bibby, is investigating the structural differences between pathogenic and vaccine strains of yellow fever virus, a mosquito-borne flavivirus.

Summa’s work focuses on understanding the mechanism of the current yellow fever virus vaccine.

Using cryo-electron microscopy and the chimeric flavivirus platform, she has discovered structural differences between multiple strains of yellow fever virus. Her findings will provide vital information informing future vaccine design.
