Title: Malectin domain-containing kinases and kinesins in plant reproduction and abiotic stress responses

The Smith group is focused on the functions of carbohydrate-binding kinases and kinesins. My seminar will introduce two stories from our research. Firstly, we have discovered a group of receptor kinases that are critical for reception of the pollen tube at the ovule during fertilisation, demonstrating interactions between these receptor kinases and co-receptors. Secondly, we work on plant-specific kinesin, examining its functions in reproduction and salt stress responses. Our recent efforts are focused on uncovering what carbohydrates this nucleocytoplasmic kinesin might bind.
