Research theme seminar series

Please join us for the next SBB theme seminar presented by Dr Brett Hamilton (CMM), 'Using Mass Spectrometry Imaging to reveal the organisation of molecules in biological tissue samples'. He will discuss the evolution of mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) tools which are used to determine the localisation of different biomolecules in a range of sample types.

We are very excited to announce this month's SBB seminar speaker, Dr. Rosemary Cater. Rosemary is a new group leader in structural biology at the IMB. She will be presenting 'Structural and Mechanistic Insights into Nutrient Transport at the Blood Brain Barrier'.

We are very excited to announce this months SBB seminar speaker, Dr. Nick Ariotti. Nick is a group leader at the IMB and an expert in the emerging field of in situ cryogenic electron microscopy. We are very excited to have him present at the SBB seminar series this month.

Structural Biology and Biochemistry (SBB) Theme welcomes everyone to attend the March seminar session, presentations by Dr Yoochan Myung and Dr Ariel Isaacs. The seminar is to be followed by morning tea at the secret garden (Building 76).

Structural Biology and Biochemistry (SBB) Theme Seminar's first seminar for the year will take place 29 February with Shannon Jewel and Isacc Tucker presenting. The Kobe lab will cater morning tea after the session in the secret garden.

Structural Biology and Biochemistry (SBB) Theme Seminar is pleased to welcome Dr Farrah Blades and Xin Lin to present their work. The presentation by Farrah is of special interest for people interested in cryo-EM data processing so do not miss out!

The Infection and Immunity Theme seminar with feature three SCMB speakers: Adriana Pliegro Zamora, Ellesandra Noye, and Jessica Harrison.

We will be joined by three speakers: PhD candidate Korawich Uthayopas, who will discuss PRIMITI, a machine learning model for accurate prediction of miRNA-target mRNA interaction; PhD candidate Oliver Hughes, on his work on evaluating regional bias between replicates that are inherent to ChIP-seq and is widespread across ENCODE, and a flash talk by PhD candidate Sophie Leech on her research on altered gut microbiome composition in women with pre-existing type 2 diabetes mellitus during pregnancy.

SCMB's Dr Alex de Sá will be presenting 'LEGO-CSM: Predictive building blocks for construction functional protein insights' at the Structural Biology and Biochemistry theme seminar.

This week's Infection and Immunity seminar will be presented by 3 SCMB students and ECRs. Speakers include: Dr Emily Strong (West Lab), Dr Lian Zheng Jie (Schembri Lab), and Yanshan Zhu (Short Lab).

The 2023 UQ Metals in Biology Group Symposium will be held 1 August 2023, featuring presentations by several international, SCMB, IMB, and CAI researchers.

Dr. Raine Thomson will present "Unlocking non-natural chemistries in ancestral cytochromes P450" and Qian Guo will present "Structural Characterisation of Endosomal Trafficking Protein Sorting Nexin 27"
